Our Primary Tenents

  1. All beings are interrelated and inherently sacred.

  2. Nature is sacred, is manifest in the Kami, and should be worshipped.

  3. The Kami and Humanity are of one family. We are their children.

  4. Failure to show proper respect or to take into account the feelings of other beings and Kami causes problems for all.

At the Sacred Cedar Shrine we combine Shinto and Neo-Pagan traditions, and venerate Ki No Kami (木の精神), the Sacred Tree Spirit.

We practice Shrine Shinto (神社神道), which is associated with daily purification rituals and prayers, seasonal festivals, good luck charms, making wishes, holding groundbreaking ceremonies, and supporting the community.

We are not associated with the Association of Shinto Shrines.

We recognize and venerate the sacredness of Imperial Shinto as represented in Meiji Jingu.

We do not follow any official doctrine, except coincidentally where it suits our tenents and as expressed in the Kojiki.

Shinto teaches that certain deeds create an impurity that one should want cleansed for peace of mind and good fortune. Therefore, purification rites are a vital part of our practice, as are good luck and purification charms for persons and houses.

Ritual purification is performed on a daily, weekly, seasonal, lunar, and annual basis at our shrine.

Seasonal festivals are periodically open to the public and are performed at the Sacred Paths Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Please check our website for event information.
